How to complete an Annual Compliance (Alberta)
This guide explains how to perform an Annual Compliance transaction for an Alberta corporation in Ingenio. This walkthrough covers a simple annual return where NO CHANGES are made to directors, officers, shareholders, or agent for service.
Example used in the video: An entity incorporated on December 1, 2024.
Before you start, make sure:
- The entity is already created and available in your Entities table.
- You know the filing year you are completing the annual return for.
- You have a plan for signing:
- Upload hand-signed documents
- Send for e-signing (optional)
Start the Annual Compliance transaction
- Open the entity and go to the Entity Profile.
- Click New Transaction (upper right corner).
- When the Transaction Type options load, select Annual Compliance.
- Verify the Effective Date, then click Continue.
Add the Annual Return details
- Review the entity information to confirm it is accurate.
In the Annual Return section, click Add Annual Return.
- Enter the Filing Year.
- Select the appropriate checkboxes (these correspond to the checkboxes on the Alberta Annual Return form).
- If no changes are required, scroll to the bottom, confirm everything is correct, then click Continue.
Select templates and confirm signing authority
- On the Document Templates screen, select the templates you want to generate.
- As you select templates, they will appear immediately in the list below.
- Confirm the Signing Authority for each document.
- Ingenio pre-selects signing authorities by default.
- Click Submit to start document generation.
Review document generation (Review & Approvals)
After you click Submit, go to the Dashboard, the transaction will appear in Review & Approvals with status Document Generating.
Note: Document generation can take 45 seconds up to 2 minutes, depending on how many templates are selected. If generation fails or exceeds expected time, use Actions (⋯) → Regenerate Templates.
Sign documents (Document Signing)
Once templates are generated, the transaction automatically moves to Document Signing.
⚠️ Important Note: It is highly recommended that you REVIEW the generated documents before sending them for e-signature to ensure the correct templates are selected and the information in the documents is accurate.
You have two options:
Option A: Download, hand-sign, and upload (shown in the video)
- Download the documents.
- Print and collect handwritten signatures outside the application.
- Upload each signed document back into Ingenio:
- Use the document Actions (⋯) menu.
- Select Upload Signed Document
- Upload the signed file in PDF format
- Repeat for each document in the transaction.
Option B: Send for e-signing (optional)
Use the transaction Actions (⋯) menu and select Send for E-Sign.
Filing & Completion
After all signed documents are uploaded (or e-signed), the transaction automatically moves to Filing & Completion.
- Review each signed document.
- Use the transaction Actions (⋯) menu and select Complete Transaction.
- If filing is required, upload proof of filing:
- Upload in PDF format
- Select the appropriate file name/type
- Preview the documents (if prompted)
- Click Complete to finish.
Verify the transaction is completed (View History)
- Navigate back to the entity in the Entities table.
- Open the entity and select View History.
- Confirm the Annual Return / Annual Compliance transaction shows as completed.
⚠️ Important Notes:
- It’s normal for Document Generating to take up to 2 minutes for larger document packages.
- If you see a failure status during generation, use Actions (⋯) → Regenerate Templates.
- Signed documents must be uploaded in PDF format.
